If you’re losing your hair, the solution might be to change your diet. Hair loss is especially difficult for women; in most cases, however, it’s resolvable.

Our hair density reduces naturally from its thickest point in our childhood and teens, while seasonal shedding means that we tend to lose hair in spring and early autumn. But if your hair is thinning beyond this, have it investigated. You don’t need to pay a trichologist or rely on hair-loss cure advertisements in magazines: your GP can conduct a series of blood tests to locate the problem.

There are two main causes: dietary and hormonal. Women who lose their hair have often been dieting and are short of nutrients. Iron is particularly important: anything that depletes it (lack of red meat in the diet, having a baby, fibroids) can lead to thinning. Asian women should note that chapatti flour can prevent nutrient absorption. Hair loss is more common after the menopause, while thyroid problems, polycystic ovary syndrome, the contraceptive Pill and HRT can be a cause.

Seek medical advice. Your hair loss might indicate an underlying problem or be a side-effect of treatment for another condition. The solution might mean hormone tablets, a supplement, adjusting your diet or even a hair transplant — but there is always something that you can do.

In order to treat hair loss effectively we would recommend that you have a diagnosis made as soon as possible by one of our experienced Westminster Trichologists. Stress can be an aggravator in almost all cases of hair loss and an accurate diagnosis will always, at the very least, take some of the stress away from you.

Gary Heron says: You’ll have access to the most effective treatments available through The Hair Centre and at a fraction of the cost of going to other Private Commercial Clinics and Centres.”

When it’s time to see the Trichologist: If you begin losing hair rapidly, and or are cosmetically concerned about baldness, consult your Trichologist about treatment options. You can receive a free hair loss consultation with a Westminster Trichologist at our Hair Centre.

The point is that you are not getting to the real problem and you should seek specific professional advice from a Westminster Trichologist.
